The Top 7 Photography Tricks

You don’t have to be a professional photographer to take expert pictures. It’s all about knowing the right techniques and following important tips.

Whether you’re a photography newbie or you’re a little more experienced with a camera, we’re pretty sure that you will always appreciate the opportunity to learn new skills and get better results.

With our top 7 photography tricks, we’re giving you the chance to do just that….

Use the Rule of Thirds

When taking a photo, you should imagine four lines, two horizontally across the image and two lying vertical across the image. This creates 9 even squares. Some images look better with the focal point in the centre square, whilst others look brilliant off centre as they appear more composed.

Choose a Polarising Filter

A polarising filter will reduce reflections from water, glass and metal. It is also really good for improving the colours of the sky. A lot of people say it’s a good lens protector and recommend leaving it on for taking all photographs.

Mix Artificial & Natural Light for Night Shots

When taking photos at night, you want to try and get a mixture of artificial and natural light. You can do this by timing the taking of your photograph; doing so when the light levels are the same.

Play Around with the Shutter Speed

You can create some amazing effects on your photos by experimenting with the shutter speed. This works better when you are taking photographs of moving objects and you’re using a tripod.

Avoid Using Flash Indoors

Flash can make photos taken inside look harsh and unnatural. You should know that you have other options instead of having to use the flash! This includes pushing the ISO up or using a wide aperture.

 Change Direction of Panoramic Shots

You can make panoramic shots look amazing by simply changing the direction of your photograph. Rotate your camera so it’s being held in a vertical direction and pan vertically!

Get Closer

If you feel like there is something just not right with your photo, take a step or two closer to your subject. Fill the frame and see if you prefer it better than when there was a lot of unused space.
